This course deals with critical illness and long-term care insurance including marketing, selling, product design and pricing, underwriting and claims. Also reviewed are marketing, selling, product design and pricing, underwriting and claims administration for a variety of group insurance products.

Contemporary Practices in Financial Planning – CFP 232
This course introduces students to basic income tax laws and moves into a more advanced understanding as it relates to areas of financial planning. A review of the professional and ethical responsibilities associated with the role of a financial planner and an understanding of the structures and services within the financial industry are reviewed. Different forms of business structure are explored in depth, along with an understanding of trusts.

Comprehensive Practices in Risk and Retirement Planning – CFP 233
This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and applications related to the concepts of managing risk and retirement planning. This course covers products, issues, and practices in the area of insurance and retirement. Included is an understanding of the risk management process along with the retirement planning process moving through the wealth accumulation phase into retirement.

Wealth Management and Estate Planning – CFP 234

Students will review the basics of economics and investing along with an understanding of investment products. Investment planning and key areas of personal financial management are explored. The course concludes with estate planning fundamentals, concepts, and applications.

Ongoing Designation Requirements

The CHS has annual requirements for one to maintain the designation including adherence to The Institute Code of Professional Conduct, continuing education requirements and paying an annual licensing fee. Designation maintenance requirements are consistent with highly recognized professional designations in the financial services industry as well as other industries such as law, engineering and healthcare.
